Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making thecrickcode.com usable for everyone.

Our commitment

The Crick Code is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of ability. We aim to conform substantially to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standard.

What we’ve done

  • Semantic HTML5 structure with one primary heading per page
  • A “skip to content” link on every page so keyboard users can bypass navigation
  • Declared the language of the page for screen readers
  • A color palette designed for high contrast between text and background
  • Descriptive alt text on new images we upload
  • Keyboard-accessible navigation and interactive elements
  • A font pairing (Cinzel headings, Lora body) that is readable at standard sizes

Where we still have work to do

Some of our older blog posts (from 2015–2018) contain images uploaded before we adopted our current accessibility practices. Several of these images do not yet have descriptive alt text. We are working to improve this over time. If you encounter a specific accessibility barrier, please tell us and we will prioritize fixing it.

We have not yet completed a full third-party accessibility audit. We rely on automated tooling (axe-core, WAVE) and our own testing.

What to do if you can’t use something on this site

Please email us at betsy.cluff@gmail.com and include:

  • The URL of the page where you encountered the difficulty
  • A description of what you were trying to do and what didn’t work
  • The assistive technology you were using (screen reader, keyboard, voice control), if applicable

We’ll respond within 5 business days and, where possible, provide the information you were looking for in an alternative accessible format.

Third-party content

Some content on this site is embedded from third-party services (for example, Amazon buy links). We cannot guarantee the accessibility of pages hosted by third parties.

Formal complaints

If you have exhausted the informal complaint route above and are still not satisfied, you may pursue a complaint through the U.S. Department of Justice, ADA Information Line at 1-800-514-0301 (voice) or 1-833-610-1264 (TTY), or through your state’s disability rights office.
